When does a Pond need Aeration?

Aeration is a very crucial element in any pond.  Every living thing in the pond requires a constant supply of oxygen and every process that happens in the pond is dependent on oxygen. The fish, plants and even the bacteria need oxygen.

Aeration is important:

  • At Night:

This is when plants are not converting CO2 into oxygen.

  • In Winter:

During winter months in colder climates aeration helps to keep a small hole open in the surface of the pond to aid in degassing

  • In Summer:

As water warms up it is unable to hold as much oxygen so dissolved oxygen levels are generally lower in warmer water temperatures. Aeration will also help to circulate your pond and prevent stagnation and so reduce the number of mosquitoes that can breed in your pond.

An Air Pump will supply aeration necessary for your pond all day and all year long.
